Someone needs to calculate how much money the UAW has spent on influencing the political process in the last 20 years. During one cycle, when the Republicans were in power I heard the number $100 million being tossed about. I expect it's an astronomical number and it would be interesting to compare it to the shortfall being experienced in their pension plans.
