The GOP 'Steele' hasn't got a clue

Which way to 2012?

The Republican Party is stumbling around in the dark.

I would've said "blind," but the sad fact is we're just too stupid to turn on the lights. Putting us exactly at the point the opposition was a few cycles ago when all the pundits were asking, "is the Democratic Party dead?"

Scratch that. We're even worse off, because apparently all we can come up with is this lame ass stunt to show how hip-n-with it we are.

Oh, ouch... I just realized the party of Uncle Ronnie has now become Officer Hoppy from "Sanford and Son." You remember, the dorky cracker who was always trying to talk jive and low-five all the "negro folk" to fit in. (Memo to the RNC: I couldn't even find a clip of the dude on YouTube.)

To be fair, I don't know much about Michael Steele. Maybe he's the bees knees. Hopefully, at least, we've learned our lesson about drifting to the center like we did with John McCain, and we can put that whole thing behin--

Steele, an attorney, is a conservative, but he was considered the most moderate of the five candidates running.

D'oh!!

What, then, doth this portend?

[Steele] vowed to expand the reach of the party by competing for every group, everywhere.

"We're going to say to friend and foe alike: 'We want you to be a part of us, we want you to with be with us.' And for those who wish to obstruct, get ready to get knocked over," Steele said.

OK... One, I don't even know what that means (we want our foes in the party??) and two, what little I can make of it suggests he's referring to obstructionists within the party. And in our party "obstructionist" is often code for "uncompromising," and that tends to mean us pesky, anti-pragmatic conservatives.

I don't know about you, but this website is looking better and better by the minute.

Officer Hoppy from "Sanford and Son."

You hit the nail on the head. The Republicans keep running black "conservative" candidates expecting black voters to vote for them. If I remember correctly, Steel lost vs a white guy for governor even amoungst black voters.

HELLLLOOOO?

My objection to the Republicans is that they've become "Democrat lite". This just validates that notion.

I don't see Palin going anywhere unless she reinvents herself. Maybe there's a Republican Soros out there who can pay for the political "do over".

I worry about Palin's viability, too, but she has time to win me back. And it won't take much.

There's always Bobby Jindal, of whom I hear good things.

It's too bad, in one sense, that the economy will be fixed (barring serious screw ups from Barry's team) by the next election. Romney's fiscal smarts would help him rise to the top in a still-bad environment. Also too bad the crash didn't happen in time for him to shine against McCain.

Yeah, Jindal will undoubtedly deliver the East Asian vote, all .5 percent of it.

Don't get me wrong. If he's the incarnation of Ronald Reagan I'll be stumping in the streets for him, but frankly running him seems like more Hoppy-ism to me, as he is not an "authentic" minority.

Maybe so. I really don't know much about Bobby Jindal except the rumor he's a "real conservative able to get elected in a liberal state" who had the ethnic bonus going for him before Barry made it the gimmick de jour.

So try this. Republicans swing to the middle and pick up votes there for a couple of years. When the Hopey Changey thing has runs its course and the country is in the dumper even more than when Hope came to DC (around 2011), we swing back to the right - decry all things liberal (oops, I mean progressive) and swoop in to make the kill in 2012.
