I guess it is perfect casting, Sean Penn being a stooge and all, but this is the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time. Making this movie at all is about as pointless as it gets.

I guess it is perfect casting, Sean Penn being a stooge and all, but this is the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time. Making this movie at all is about as pointless as it gets.

It seems to me that it's very difficult for modern comedians to play the humorous idiot. (Or conversely, modern idiots like Penn playing classic comedians like Larry) There's always the "Aren't I brilliantly playing the idiot!" thing slipping from behind the mask.
The 3 Stooges/Laurel and Hardy and a very few others could make you believe (and laugh a lot harder) because they had a rock hard professionalism, likely borne of playing the stage during the depression.
And it's not even the same thing as remaking an older film. The Stooges were a one-of-a-kind event.
This turkey be the remake of 'Beverly Hillbillies' all over again, whoever takes the roles. And they're dreaming if they think Johnny Depp would go within a mile of this in the first place.
